R55 Welding Cap Inspection
Welding caps, which are attached to the end effectors of robotic welders, are automatically milled after a specific amount of welds. After each milling operation, the robot arm moves the welding cap to an inspection gauge. The hardened aluminum gauge houses model BT23S/M8 glass fiber optic assemblies, which are attached to model R55F color sensors. The R55F TEACH mode sensors are programmed to recognize a welding cap which has been properly milled. If a welding cap does not pass inspection, a maintenance signal is sent to the process controller, and the welding operation is halted. This inspection maintains high weld integrity.
Objective:
To detect worn, improperly milled, or missing welding caps on robotic welders

R55FVWQ (one for each welding cap)
Fiber Optic Models:
BT23S/M8 (one for each welding cap)
