D11 Expert Clear Web Cutoff Registration
A pair of individual plastic fibers, terminated on the sensing end in a ¡°U¡±-shaped assembly, straddles the edge of a web, with the fibers in an opposed-mode configuration. The fiber sensor connects to a ¡°teach mode¡± sensor that ¡°learns¡± the difference between the amount of light transmitted through the web, compared with the amount of light transmitted through a registration mark printed along the edge of the web. This sensor uses a visible green light source, which excels at opposed-mode detection even of lightly-printed registration marks. The opposed mode is used to prevent the sensor from being influenced by the color of the printed mark (only by its print density), and also to minimize the sensor¡¯s sensitivity to web ¡°flutter.¡±
