MINI-ARRAY Profile Measurement of Returnable Bottles

Returned bottles pass on a conveyor at a speed of 300 mm per second, where they are inspected for breakage. A High-Resolution MINI-ARRAY 6" sensor pair with visible red beam is positioned on either side of the conveyor. The visible beam is necessary, as an infra-red beam would pass right through the clear glass. The visible red beam passes through the center of the bottles, but not through the edges, where the glass is thicker. As each bottle passes through the beam matrix, a series of images (via two analog signals from the controller) is sent to a process controller, which combines the images to create an image of the complete bottle. One of the output signals measures the lower profile of each bottle (Analysis Mode Selection set to FBB in the configuration software); the other measures the upper profile of the bottles (Analysis Mode Selection set to LBB). An irregular outline on any of the images is construed to be a broken bottle, and the bottle is ejected.
