OMNI-BEAM Cable Jacket Flaw Detection
Defects which occur along the length of finished cable appear in the form of bumps or bulges. Bulges result when one or more of the wires becomes kinked or knotted or crossed over the other wires within the cable. Both fiber optic pairs are positioned so that some light passes on each side of the cable (see detail drawing). The two beams are positioned approximately at right angles to each other for optimum scan coverage. The ac-coupled amplifier of the OMNI-BEAM sensors reliably respond to small irregularities, resulting in a pulsed output signal.
Objective:
To sense defects along the length of multi-wire cable.
Sensor Models:
(2) OMNI-BEAM model OSBFAC ac-coupled fiber optic sensors, each equipped with model OLM8 plug-in timing logic module and OPBT2 power block.
Fiber Optic Models:
(2) pairs model IR23S individual glass fiber optics.
